On the 14th, the special investigation team is conducting searches and seizures at the Drone Operations Command, Ministry of National Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, National Security Office, and Military Intelligence Command in connection with former President Yoon Suk-yeol's foreign exchange charge.
Since the morning of that day, the special investigation team has been searching 24 military-related sites, including the Drone Operations Command located in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, the residence of Drone Operations Commander Kim Yong-dae, the Ministry of National Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, National Security Office, and Military Intelligence Command.
The special investigation team is investigating allegations that former President Yoon induced provocations from North Korea by sending drones to Pyongyang last October to build a justification for declaring a state of emergency.
In October of last year, North Korea revealed a downed drone, saying that it had 'penetrated Pyongyang with leaflets from South Korea.' In relation to this, the Democratic Party of Korea claimed that after the state of emergency was declared, the Drone Operations Command sent the unmanned aircraft to Pyongyang under orders from the National Security Office.
The Drone Command is a joint combat unit of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps established in 2023 to respond to hostile unmanned aircraft, among other threats. According to the Military Organization Act, it operates under the command and supervision of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Recently, it has been reported that the special investigation team secured a recording in which an active-duty military officer stated, 'I heard from Commander Kim Yong-dae that the directive to send a drone to Pyongyang came from V (former President Yoon).'
