The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it will conduct a special crackdown on drunk driving for six weeks from the 14th to the 24th of next month. This decision is based on the judgment that awareness of traffic safety may become lax ahead of the summer vacation.
Thirty-one police stations in the Seoul area will conduct targeted crackdowns at least twice a week. The crackdown locations include ▲Hangang Park and amusement parks ▲access roads to expressways ▲areas around entertainment districts.
To prevent driving under the influence after drinking, the police will conduct frequent crackdowns not only at night but also during the day, changing locations unexpectedly so that drunk drivers cannot predict them. They will also catch violations of regulations by two-wheeled vehicles, personal mobility devices (PM), and pedestrians jaywalking while intoxicated.
A police official noted, "Drunk driving is a serious crime that threatens the safety of not only myself and my family but also all citizens."
