On the 13th, the Ministry of Justice stated that "it does not restrict the outdoor exercise time of former President Yoon Suk-yeol who is in custody." It also mentioned that after providing government-issued medication to former President Yoon, it allowed him to acquire external medicines upon his request.
This was a rebuttal to claims made by former President Yoon's attorney Kim Gye-ri on social media that "former President Yoon is not given exercise time." The Ministry also clarified reports from some media outlets that stated, "Former President Yoon's condition worsened because he was unable to properly take medicine for diabetes and eye complications that he had been suffering from prior to his detention."
On the same day, the Ministry of Justice told reporters that "there is no fact that the Seoul Detention Center restricted former President Yoon Suk-yeol's outdoor exercise." It added, "Outdoor exercise for inmates is conducted within one hour during the workday according to correctional laws and regulations."
It continued, "In former President Yoon's case, he is conducting outdoor exercise alone to block contact with other inmates, and except for unavoidable cases such as attorney visits and court proceedings, it is being conducted normally."
This content refutes claims made by attorney Kim Gye-ri on his Facebook that former President Yoon is receiving unfair treatment compared to other inmates in detention.
Attorney Kim wrote, "Inmates are given exercise time. However, former President Yoon does not have exercise time." He further stated, "During the last arrest, when I asked that he be allowed to exercise, he expressed difficulty by saying that if he wanted to exercise, all the regular inmates would have to be sent away, and he would have to exercise alone."
The Ministry of Justice also stated that "immediately after entering, the medical officer at the Seoul Detention Center examined his health status." It added, "(Former President Yoon) entered without possessing the medications he was taking prior to his detention, and after first providing him with government-issued medications necessary for treatment, it authorized and provided external prescription drugs based on his request." It continued, "In the future, if additional medications are needed, the opinions of the medical officer may be considered in allowing him to receive treatment from external medical facilities."
The Ministry's explanation clarifies media reports stating that former President Yoon was unable to properly take medicine for diabetes and eye complications that he had been suffering from prior to his detention, resulting in his condition worsening.
The Ministry of Justice added, "In the case of the residential room, we are using a single occupancy room similar to that of general inmates, and a fan is installed in the room. The Seoul Detention Center is managing the temperature of the detention building daily to ensure proper conditions during hot weather."
The Ministry stated, "The limit for inmate personal funds is set at 4 million won per person, and if exceeded, a bank account will be opened in the name of the inmate at the transaction bank of the respective institution, where deposits can be made and held, to be paid out upon release." It added, "After former President Yoon Suk-yeol's detention, a virtual account for inmate personal funds was opened, and account information for deposit was communicated to the legal team."
Meanwhile, former President Yoon was arrested on the 10th on charges of abuse of power and others. The court issued the arrest warrant requested by the Special Prosecutor for Insurrection. Director General Nam Se-jin, who was in charge of the warrant review, stated, "There is a concern that evidence may be destroyed," and issued the warrant.
