It has been revealed that 11-year-old A, who died along with her mother after colliding with a teenager who fell from the roof of a shopping mall in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, was a promising tennis player.
The Korea Tennis Association expressed its condolences for player A, who was a victim of the fall accident in Gwangju on the official website on the 9th.
The association described A as 'a spirited girl player,' noting that she said confidently, 'I will definitely go next year,' even after being eliminated in the preliminary round of the last youth sports competition.
It added, 'A was preparing for the Suncheon Junior Tournament starting on the 11th,' and that 'A left for heaven along with her mother in a shocking incident.'
The association stated, 'We are deeply saddened and sorry,' and that 'we will remember 5th grader A from OO Elementary School in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.'
According to the association, a mourning space will be prepared at the venue during the Suncheon Junior Tournament, which will take place on the 11th, and players will wear black ribbons.
Earlier, at around 2:36 p.m. on the 7th, a teenager fell from the roof of a 13-story shopping building in downtown Gwangju, hitting three passersby, including a mother and daughter.
A died immediately after the accident, while the falling woman was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest for treatment but died the same evening. A's mother, a woman in her 40s, Ms. B, died the next day after receiving treatment.
A man in his 20s, Mr. C, suffered injuries to his shoulder and other areas and is receiving treatment at the hospital but is in stable condition.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
