The Ministry of Education reported on the 10th that it has requested an investigation from the Korean National Police Agency regarding a post on an online community that threatened retaliation against medical students and residents not participating in collective actions.
Recently, a post was made in the online community Medistaff by a user presumed to be a medical student that said, "Citruses, we're coming. If you go back, we'll do something to you." Medistaff is restricted to doctors and medical students. "Citrus" is known to be a slang term derogatorily referring to residents and medical students who are not participating in collective actions.
The Ministry of Education also stated that there are cases indicating direct threats to the lives and physical safety of unspecified medical students and residents, as well as predictions of disadvantages in their studies and work. This includes threats to exclude residents who do not participate in collective actions from cycles.
The Ministry of Education plans to respond strongly by continuing to report acts that infringe on the right to education, a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution, to the police for investigation.
