The Fire Agency announced on the 8th that regular fire officials who died in the line of duty are also included in the special promotion candidates. This is in line with the implementation of the amendment to the promotion and appointment regulations for fire officials, which passed the State Council meeting on the 1st.
The existing special promotion system only targeted fire officials who died in the line of duty while performing high-risk tasks such as firefighting, rescue, and emergency services. There were calls to broaden the scope to include fire officials who died while performing other duties.
The amended regulation aims to expand the application of the special promotion system to include 'regular officials who have significant contributions recognized during their service.'
In addition, the Fire Agency anticipated that since the survivor benefits for deceased fire officials would be paid based on the rank achieved through special promotion, there would be an increase in survivor benefits in cases of special promotions. This will also apply to fire officials who died before the regulation was amended.
Kim Jae-hong, head of the General Affairs Division at the Fire Agency, said, 'This amendment is not only about promotions but also about establishing standards for how the state honors the dignity of officials who have dedicated themselves.'
