Amid heat waves affecting most areas across the country, asphalt has even melted in downtown Ulsan.
On the afternoon of the 4th, a scene resembling melted ice cream was witnessed at the bus stop near Nongsok Elementary School in Bukgu, Ulsan. The yellow lines on the road were warped unevenly. The edges flowed down and covered the drain cover.
This week, the heat wave is expected to intensify further. From 10 a.m. on the 7th, the year’s first "heat wave warning" was issued for Seoul. It is anticipated that heat wave advisories issued for most areas will be maintained for some time.
The Korea Meteorological Administration noted that as of 10 a.m. on that day, the heat wave advisories issued for Gyeonggi Province (Gwangmyeong, Gwacheon, Ansan, Siheung, etc.) and Gangwon Province (Wonju, Hongcheon, Chuncheon), Chungcheongnam-do (Cheonan, Cheongyang, Yesan, etc.), Gyeongsangbuk-do (Yeongju), and Seoul will be upgraded to heat wave warnings.
A heat wave warning is issued when the maximum perceived temperature exceeds 35 degrees for more than two days or when significant damage is expected due to the heat.
The issuance of a heat wave warning in the Seoul area comes just a week after a heat wave advisory was put into effect on the 30th of last month. This is 18 days earlier than last year.
