The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 5th that the supplementary budget of 12.8 trillion won for the second amendment of this year was confirmed through a vote in the National Assembly on the 4th. The budget for the 'consumer coupons for livelihood recovery,' which provides 150,000 won to 500,000 won for all citizens, is allocated 12.17 trillion won, accounting for 95% of the total.
Considering the difficult local financial conditions, the grant rate from the national budget has been raised from a maximum of 80% to 90%, and additional payments of 30,000 won and 50,000 won are also reflected in the budget for non-capital areas and regions with declining populations.
The budget of 600 billion won for local love gift certificates aimed at revitalizing the local economy has been fully reflected in the supplementary budget plan submitted by the government.
A budget of 1.5 billion won has also been allocated to support the victims of the Itaewon disaster on Oct. 29 and to commemorate the deceased.
Additionally, a budget of 52.5 billion won has been included to quickly restore areas affected by natural disasters to prevent casualties and property damage.
Accordingly, the ministry's efforts in disaster prevention projects are expected to gain momentum.
Through this supplementary budget, the ministry will provide an additional 52.5 billion won to a total of 33 disaster prevention projects.
This is expected to expedite the completion of projects and alleviate the anxieties of residents in hazardous areas early.
Acting Minister Kim Min-jae said, 'We will do our best to ensure swift and flawless execution so that the effects of the economic stimulus can be felt on the ground in a timely manner.'
Kim Kwang-yong, head of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters, said, 'Disaster prevention projects are proactive measures to prevent repeated damage in areas where damage occurred in the past,' and added, 'We will spare no support to ensure that disaster prevention projects that protect public safety are carried out without disruption in close cooperation with local governments.'
