The Seoul Facilities Corporation announced on the 4th that it will implement a comprehensive plan to ensure citizens' safety during the summer season.
This comprehensive plan will be carried out in four major areas: heavy rain, heat waves, safety, and health.
First, the corporation has designated habitual flooding sections on expressways and underground roads as key management targets in preparation for heavy rain. This is to immediately deploy recovery personnel and equipment in case of flooding. Additionally, it has increased the number of water pumps, including 102 submersible pumps and 30 engine pumps, and safety personnel through collaboration with private companies.
To respond to heat waves, eight water cleaning trucks will be deployed to clean major roads. Real-time heat wave information will also be provided on variable message signs (VMS) on expressways and the corporation's website.
Measures to protect workers will also be established. Outdoor working hours will be reduced, and shaded rest areas will be set up. When a heat wave advisory is in effect, outdoor work sites will stop work during the high-temperature hours of 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Cooling systems and saline glucose will be provided in rest facilities to prevent heat-related illnesses.
In addition, maintenance work has been completed on the Cheonggyecheon promenade, stairs, and bicycle paths to ensure citizen safety. Multi-use facilities such as the Seoul Children's Grand Park and the Seoul World Cup Stadium will have strengthened safety management through regular inspections.
Korea Yong, chairperson of the corporation, said, "We will prioritize the lives and safety of citizens, and all employees of the corporation will respond with full force."
