A controversy is arising as a parent sends an email to a teaching assistant at Seoul National University questioning their child's grades.
A teaching assistant of a liberal arts course at Seoul National University, identified as A, shared a bewildering experience on the student anonymous community Everytime on the 26th with the title, "A parent is making a grade claim."
A said, "After reading the email, I was shocked to see a parent claiming that their child should never receive such a grade and asking for a regrade to raise the grade. Even while reading, I found it hard to understand the situation, and I still can't grasp it," expressing his astonishment. He added, "For now, I sent an email to the student saying, 'The parent sent this email, so please take measures to ensure this doesn’t happen again,' but I'm feeling dizzy."
According to the email shared by A, parent B stated, "I checked my child's grades, and they received a C. How can a child who graduated from a gifted high school with excellent grades and is proficient in university mathematics and physics receive a C?" expressing strong dissatisfaction with the grading standards. B also criticized, "Through this incident, I realized that the grading system of your esteemed Seoul National University is truly ridiculous."
B continued, "Especially, this subject is said to be graded by a teaching assistant, but you're not a professor, are you? Thus, I absolutely cannot accept the results you graded. The professor conducting the course should regrade it to assign a grade that the child deserves. If this does not happen, I will consider legal action."
As this post spread, other students reacted, saying, "That student must be suffering. How much have they endured since childhood?" and "If it were an email from a professor, how did they manage to find and contact them through Google? But if it's a teaching assistant, it's 100% that the student had a parent intervene."
Teaching assistant A reported the incident to the responsible professor, who said, "There was no problem with the grade processing," and it is understood that no further action will be taken.
