The first tropical night of the year occurred last night in Seoul. On Monday, the 30th, the daytime high temperature will rise to 35 degrees, continuing the heatwave across the country.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the lowest temperature in Seoul recorded from 6 p.m. on the 29th to 7 a.m. on that day was 25.6 degrees. This marks the first tropical night of the year, which is 8 days later than last year's first tropical night on June 21.

A tropical night refers to a phenomenon where the temperature remains above 25 degrees overnight (from 6 p.m. the previous day to 9 a.m. the next day). The cause of the tropical night is the persistent influx of hot and humid southwest winds.

Tropical nights also occurred in areas outside Seoul. Gangneung (27 degrees), Cheongju (25.3 degrees), Pohang (27.4 degrees), Daegu (25.8 degrees), Ulsan (25.1 degrees), Yeongdeok (25 degrees), and Seogwipo (25.9 degrees) were among the areas that recorded tropical nights.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that temperatures will be higher than the average (lowest 19 to 21 degrees, highest 25 to 29 degrees) for the time being.

In most regions across the country, the maximum perceived temperature is expected to rise to around 33 degrees, making it very hot. There is also a possibility that heatwave warnings will be strengthened or expanded in some areas. The expected daytime high temperature on the 30th is between 27 and 35 degrees.
