Former lawmaker Yoon Kwan-seok, who was sentenced to two years in prison due to the Democratic Party of Korea 'money envelope incident,' will be released on parole on the 30th.
According to the legal community on the 29th, the Ministry of Justice held a parole review committee meeting on the 23rd and made a determination on Yoon's eligibility for parole.
Accordingly, Yoon is expected to be paroled on the 30th.
It has been about 1 year and 10 months since the prosecution arrested and indicted Yoon on charges of violating the political party law in August 2023. Under current law, a person sentenced to a sentence of imprisonment must serve one-third of their term before becoming eligible for parole.
Yoon was indicted for receiving a total of 60 million won from camp officials to provide to active members of the Democratic Party to ensure the election of former party leader Song Young-gil (62) ahead of the Democratic Party's convention in May 2021, and his two-year prison sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court last October.
