On the 29th, President Lee Jae-myung appointed Jin-soo Lee, the head of the Criminal Division of the Supreme Public Prosecutors' Office, as the new Vice Minister of Justice.
Lee began his career as a prosecutor at the Southern District Prosecutors' Office in Seoul, as part of the 29th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute. He served as head of the Special Inspection Team at the Blue House in 2013, head of the 2nd Scientific Investigation Department of the Supreme Public Prosecutors' Office in 2015, and the Legal Advisor at the Ministry of Justice in 2017.
Having served as the head of the 4th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in 2018, Lee later became the chief prosecutor of the Gangneung Branch of the Chuncheon District Prosecutors' Office in 2020, a Vice Administrator at the Cheongju District Prosecutors' Office, and Vice Administrators at the Southern District Prosecutors' Office before taking the role of chief of the Northern District Prosecutors' Office in 2023 and becoming head of the Criminal Department of the Supreme Public Prosecutors' Office last year.
Lee is classified as a ‘non-special’ prosecutor, focusing mainly on criminal investigations like those involving public safety crimes. Spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong noted about the Vice Minister, “He is a non-special prosecutor who is well aware of the concerns faced by most of the prosecutors working in the criminal division.”
