In relation to the so-called 36-week abortion case that occurred last year, the director of the hospital where the procedure was performed and the attending physician were arrested on the 28th.
Park Jeong-ho, the presiding judge of the Seoul Central District Court, issued arrest warrants for a person surnamed Yun in his 80s, the hospital director, and a person surnamed Shim in his 60s, the attending physician, at 3 a.m. that day. Judge Park noted, "There is a concern about the destruction of evidence."
Yun and others are accused of killing the fetus by performing an abortion on a 20-something YouTuber known as A, who sparked controversy by sharing her experience of having an abortion at 36 weeks last year. Police report that the fetus died after emerging from A's body. Yun also faced charges for violating medical laws as he did not install a closed-circuit television (CCTV) inside the operating room.
A previously posted a video in June last year claiming she had an abortion at 36 weeks. The controversy arose over whether it constituted murder, as a 6-week fetus is capable of surviving independently outside the womb, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare asked the police to investigate. The police have taken nine individuals into custody, including medical personnel and brokers who facilitated patients.
