Former President Yoon Suk-yeol's side stated on the 28th regarding the morning investigation by the special prosecution for insurrection that Senior Superintendent Park Chang-hwan of the Korean National Police Agency's Major Crime Investigation Division is in charge of the investigation and must follow the human rights protections and due process prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Act.

Former President Yoon attended the special prosecution at 9:55 a.m. that day and has been undergoing the special prosecution's investigation in a designated investigation room on the sixth floor of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office since 10:14 a.m. It was reported that during the morning investigation, Senior Superintendent Park investigated the allegations against former President Yoon regarding his obstruction of arrest and destruction of evidence.

Former President Yoon's defense team stated in a statement sent to the media that day, 'The allegations against former President Yoon for obstructing arrest must first clarify the legality of police enforcement and the illegality of the warrant,' adding, 'The side of former President Yoon has already reported police-related individuals, and Senior Superintendent Park Chang-hwan, who is currently conducting the investigation, has also been reported for leading the illegal arrest.'

The defense team questioned, 'Is this an attempt to excuse the illegality of the police, or is it an embarrassing situation where an unprepared special prosecution must ask the police to conduct the investigation?' They continued, 'This is not a thorough and fair special prosecution for clarifying statements, but allowing the accused to investigate the accuser for the purpose of stigmatization and witch hunts.' They also emphasized, 'An unprepared special prosecution, where political objectives and balance of investigation are destroyed, cannot reveal the truth and call for adherence to the human rights protections and due process prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Act.'

Former President Yoon's defense team also issued an additional statement after the special prosecution for insurrection announced around 12:44 p.m. that 'the morning investigation went well,' calling it 'a self-congratulatory announcement.' The defense team remarked, 'The special prosecution for insurrection is composed of the largest scale in history, yet it is demonstrating such poor investigative capability that it has to ask the police to conduct the investigation.'

They continued, 'Is it something to be proud of that a former president is being made to stand in front of the prosecution's photo line abolished by the Moon Jae-in administration? Is it fortunate that the police are conducting the investigation? How can there be no embarrassment at all about the police dispatched from the special prosecution office leading the investigation? It is truly shocking to see how lawyers conduct themselves,' adding, 'Is it special prosecution-style investigation for the police, who have been reported for illegal activities disguised as public duties, obstruction of special public duties, breaking and entering of special structures, and violations of the Military Base and Military Facilities Protection Act, to directly carry out the investigation?'

Additionally, the defense team stated, 'Attorneys present at the investigation demand that prosecutors conduct the interrogation directly, as the reported police are in a conflict of interest and significantly lack impartiality, and they should be excluded from the investigation,' expressing hope that the special prosecution would at least recognize the need for minimal fairness.
