Starting from the 28th, the basic fare for subways in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon has increased to 1,550 won.
According to the city of Seoul, from the first train of the day, the basic subway fare in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon has been raised by 150 won from 1,400 won. The basic fare for Incheon and Gyeonggi, which operate at the same rate as the Seoul subway, along with KORAIL, has also increased. This fare hike is in response to the Seoul city's announcement in 2023 to raise subway fares by 300 won.
When paying in cash, the regular fare and youth fare have both increased by 150 won to 1,650 won. The youth fare with a card is up by 100 won to 900 won. The children's fare is 550 won for both cash and card. This is an increase of 50 won from the previous 500 won.
The early morning discount fare for subways has increased by 120 won. It has risen from 1,120 won to 1,240 won. The youth early morning discount has increased from 640 won to 720 won, and the children's fare has risen from 400 won to 440 won. Commuters can receive the early morning discount by tapping their transport cards between the first train on weekdays and 6:30 a.m.
Previously, the city decided to increase the fare by a total of 300 won through two increments of 150 won each, following a public hearing, feedback from the Seoul City Council, and consultations with the price countermeasure committee in 2023. The first increase by 150 won took place in October 2023, and an agreement was reached with Incheon and Gyeonggi to discuss the timing of the second increase, starting from today.
