The former Administrator of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Kim Bong-sik, who was arrested and indicted on charges of insurrection, was released on bail on the 26th.
On that day, the Criminal Division 25 of the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by Director General Ji Kwi-yeon, approved bail for the former Administrator.
The court imposed conditions for the bail, including a ban on contacting case officials, prohibition against fleeing and destroying evidence, residential restrictions, a deposit of 100 million won, and court approval for travel exceeding three days. If the former Administrator violates any of these conditions, the bail may be revoked, and the court may not return the deposit. A fine of up to 10 million won and detention for up to 20 days may also be imposed.
The former Administrator was indicted along with Korean National Police Agency Commissioner Jo Ji-ho in January on charges of insurrection (important duty participation) under criminal law. The former Administrator was investigated for meeting former President Yoon Suk-yeol and former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun at the presidential secret residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, about three hours before the declaration of a state of emergency on Dec. 3 of last year to receive directives related to the emergency.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Jo Ji-ho of the Korean National Police Agency was released on bail in January due to health issues, including blood cancer.
