Lee Se-ran (53, photo) is considered a welfare expert who led pension reform under the Yoon Suk-yeol government.
The new Vice Minister graduated from Korea University and entered public service through the 40th Administrative Examination.
He has been evaluated as having played a significant role in passing the pension reform bill in the National Assembly since taking office as the Director of Social Welfare Policy in June last year. Previously, he held positions such as Head of Pension Finance and Head of Pension Policy.
This Vice Minister also served as the Director of the Insurance Benefits Division and Medical Resources Division (currently the Medical Workforce Policy Division), known as the three major projects of the Ministry of Health and Welfare alongside pensions.
The presidential office stated that in appointing this Vice Minister, he is evaluated as the right person to enact the president’s governance philosophy of establishing a strong social safety net to protect one another in times of crisis, being a talent with expertise in various fields.
