Candidate for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, Kang Sun-woo.

Candidate Kang Sun-woo, nominated as the first Minister of Gender Equality and Family in the Lee Jae-myung government, said on the 26th, "I will adjust and sometimes make decisions to ensure that bias and conflict do not hinder Korea's growth momentum."

On the same day, candidate Kang reported to the office of the personnel hearing preparation team set up in the Ima Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, marking her first day at work and expressed her feelings about the ministerial nomination.

She said, "I will comprehensively examine the things I did not choose, those that were given to me at birth, so that I am not subject to discrimination or reverse discrimination, and I will do my best and sincerely to create a Korea where forming connections with individuals and nurturing them can be quite a good choice."

At the same time, candidate Kang noted, "Our ministry, which is expected to undergo changes in the future, will focus on warming the lives of the people rather than individual achievements or government results," and said, "I will diligently carry out all remaining procedures."

Before expressing her feelings about the ministerial nomination, candidate Kang also referenced a fire incident that occurred in an apartment in Busan on the 24th. In this incident, two sisters aged 7 and 10 were transported to the hospital in an unconscious state but unfortunately passed away.

In relation to this, candidate Kang stated, "If there had been just one adult to look after the children at the time their parents left for work at dawn, and if there had been a state caregiving system by their side, what would it have been like?" and added, "The sorrow continues to awaken my heart like an alarm sound."

He further said, "As someone who's engaged in politics, I offer my apologies."

Meanwhile, the presidential office revealed on the 23rd that candidate Kang would be appointed as the Minister of Gender Equality and Family. Immediately after the announcement, candidate Kang said, "I will strive to make the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family under the Lee Jae-myung government one that warmly embraces every citizen's feet." He previously served as a commissioner of the Gender Equality and Family Committee in the 21st National Assembly and as the secretary of the Health and Welfare Committee in the 22nd National Assembly.
