On the 25th, it was reported that the special investigation team for insurrection has imposed a departure ban on former President Yoon Suk-yeol.
According to the legal community, the special investigation team for insurrection is said to have requested a departure ban on former President Yoon after receiving the case records from the police and the special investigation headquarters of the prosecution. Earlier, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) and others had already imposed a departure ban on former President Yoon, but it was reported that this was in accordance with the regulation that requires new actions when the investigative agency changes.
The Ministry of Justice imposed a departure ban on former President Yoon on Dec. 9 last year at the request of the prosecution and the CIO. However, the previous departure ban was lifted when former President Yoon was released on March 7 due to a court's decision to cancel his detention. Since then, the prosecution is said to have imposed an additional departure ban on former President Yoon.
In response, a source from the special investigation team for insurrection noted, "Generally, when a detention is canceled or bail is granted during an ongoing trial, the necessity of a departure ban is reviewed and actions are taken, and when the agency responsible for maintaining the indictment changes, that agency will reassess the departure ban and submit a request."
Meanwhile, the special investigation team for insurrection filed an arrest warrant against former President Yoon on charges of obstruction of public duty and abuse of power on the 24th. The court is expected to decide on the issuance of the arrest warrant as early as that day.
