The police have received a complaint against Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok and plan to assign it to the anti-corruption investigation unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency for investigation, they announced on the 23rd.
A police official said at a regular press briefing that day, “We received the complaint on the 17th,” and added, “We plan to conduct necessary investigations, including a witness interview, after reviewing related materials.”
Earlier, the civil society group People's Livelihood Measures Committee filed a complaint against the nominee on the 16th for abuse of power and violations of the Anti-Corruption Act and the Political Fund Act. They raised suspicions that Kim's wife, who opened a bakery in the Sin-gil-dong area of Yeongdeungpo in Seoul in 2023, received preferential treatment from a local large church that operated a café supplying bread to the church. According to their claims, the church's pastor has supported the nominee.
The People's Livelihood Measures Committee also accused President Lee Jae-myung of being involved in remittances to North Korea. The police stated, “We have completed the witness interviews,” and added, “We are in the stage of legal review based on the investigation findings.”
