The way a 'cafe goer' occupied a personal cubicle for an extended period at a Starbucks has come under scrutiny. Professor Seo Kyung-deok of Sungshin Women's University criticized their behavior, noting that 'foreigners also find it puzzling.'
On the 23rd, Professor Seo shared related content on his social media (SNS), stating, "Recently, a photo was posted under the title 'There is an outing villain at the local Starbucks.'" The table in the photo had a headset, keyboard, mouse, and tablet placed on it, and the cubicle was set up, resembling a personal office.
The internet user who posted the photo pointed out, "They always reserve a spot like this and are never present," adding, "On that day, I stayed for 3 hours and they never returned to their seat once."
Professor Seo noted, "The controversy over such nuisances in cafes continually arises and is emerging as a serious 'social issue,'" sharing his experience of encountering a similar situation during a meeting with foreigners at Starbucks. He said, "The foreigner who saw this was really puzzled."
According to him, the guest at the adjacent table had set up a cubicle with thick paper and was sleeping, while the foreigner asked, 'How can one claim their space and engage in such personal behavior in a public place like a cafe?'
Professor Seo emphasized, "As the summer vacation period in July and August approaches, many foreigners will visit Korea and use cafes countless times," expressing his hope that such 'nuisance cafe goers' will not appear anymore.
