The special counsel team led by Cho Eun-seok, investigating the insurrection and foreign exchange charges related to former President Yoon Suk-yeol's 'Dec. 3 emergency martial law', announced that it confirmed additional suspicions involving former Army Intelligence Command chief Yeon In-hyeong and other senior military officials and forwarded related materials to the military prosecution.

The insurrection special counsel stated on the 22nd through a media release that, "While proceeding with the investigation after receiving the records, it was confirmed that a swift review was necessary regarding matters concerning former Commander Yeon In-hyeong and others, who are currently being tried in military court, and thus, materials were sent to the military prosecution today, and consultations regarding the prosecution and other measures in accordance with Article 6, Paragraph 3 of the Special Counsel Act are underway."

This action appears to be in response to the possibility that former Commander Yeon In-hyeong and others, who are being tried in military court on charges of involvement in the emergency martial law, may soon be released due to the expiration of their detention period at the first instance. Former Commander Yeon was arrested and indicted on December 31 last year for charges of performing important duties related to insurrection and obstructing the exercise of authority.

Previously, the special counsel applied additional charges including obstruction of the execution of public duties by deception against former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun ahead of the expiration of his first instance detention period on the 26th, and requested the court to issue an arrest warrant.
