The Gyeonggi Uijeongbu light rail faced significant disruptions on the morning of the 20th as it halted operations twice due to heavy rain and sudden temperature changes, causing considerable inconvenience for commuters.
According to Uijeongbu Light Rail, a signal failure occurred around 7:30 a.m. on a train operating toward Balgok from Hyoja Station, resulting in a suspension of all operations. The service resumed at approximately 8:30 a.m. after restoration work was completed about an hour later.
Earlier, around 4:20 a.m., train operations were also halted for about 2 hours and 20 minutes due to a signal issue in the same section before being restored.
Uijeongbu Light Rail operates with an unmanned circular route, meaning if there is a problem with one train, all operations are halted.
A light rail official noted, “The signal issue is presumed to have occurred due to the overnight heavy rain and temperature changes,” adding, “We have now completed the restoration and are operating normally.”
