As heavy rain warnings have been issued for the metropolitan area and Gangwon Province, the Ministry of Interior and Safety activated Level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters at 2:30 p.m. on the 20th.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, a very strong rain of around 30 mm per hour is currently falling mainly in the metropolitan area and Gangwon Province due to the stationary front (monsoon front).
As of 4 p.m. on the 20th, the areas under heavy rain advisories include Seoul, Incheon (excluding Ongjin-gun), Gyeonggi's Gwangmyeong, Gwacheon, Ansan, Siheung, Bucheon, Gimpo, Dongducheon, Yeoncheon, Pocheon, Gapyeong, Goyang, Yangju, Uijeongbu, Paju, Anyang, Guri, Namyangju, Gunpo, Uiwang, Hanam, Hwaseong, Gangwon's Cheorwon, Hwacheon, Yanggu Plain, Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong, and Jeonbuk's Gunsan. Heavy rain advisories are issued when rainfall exceeds 60 mm in 3 hours or 110 mm in 12 hours.
It is expected that from the night of the 20th until the afternoon of the 21st, the stationary front will move south, bringing heavy rain mainly to the Chungcheong and Jeolla regions. The expected rainfall from the 20th to the 21st is ▲ Metropolitan area 30 to 80 mm (more than 120 mm in some areas) ▲ Gangwon inland and mountainous areas 50 to 100 mm (more than 120 mm in some areas) ▲ Chungcheong 50 to 100 mm (more than 180 mm in some areas) ▲ Jeonbuk 50 to 100 mm (more than 180 mm in some areas).
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters emphasized the need to use disaster text messages and village broadcasts to promote weather information and public action guidelines in order to minimize damage from heavy rain. It also urged to strengthen surveillance in vulnerable areas such as past wildfire damage sites and areas at risk of landslides, and to swiftly control access when risks are anticipated.
