A street named after national fencing representative Oh Sang-wook, who is a current student, will be created near Daejeon University.
Daejeon University announced on the 19th that a ceremony declaring ‘Oh Sang-wook Street’, in honor of the two-time Paris Olympics champion, will be held at Yongun-dong Yongsoogol Children's Park on the 26th at 3 p.m. The ceremony will be hosted by the Dong-gu Office of Daejeon.
Oh Sang-wook is the first Asian fencer to achieve a Grand Slam in individual events and currently ranks first in the world in men's sabre individual events. He is a member of the 15th cohort of the Department of Social Sports at Daejeon University.
The honorary road spans a total of 900 meters from Yongun Jugong Complex 2 to the Magellan Apartment intersection. The event is scheduled to feature a performance by the Gwanak Quintet and a sabre demonstration match by aspiring fencers, along with a reading of the declaration, a ceremony for unveiling the road, and an autograph session with Oh Sang-wook.
Daejeon University President Nam Sang-ho said, “I hope that the establishment of Oh Sang-wook Street will help the area become a landmark, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy and regional development.”
