Police apprehended individuals suspected of manufacturing and distributing counterfeit products from a factory set up in the heart of Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's mobile patrol unit announced on the 18th that they had arrested two men in their 50s on the 9th for operating a counterfeit manufacturing facility in Mangwoo-dong, Jungnang-gu for the past two years. They are facing charges of trademark law violations.
Police cracked down on a counterfeit clothing sales company that had a banner reading "store closing sale" at the entrance of a building while patrolling the Songpa District in May. During the crackdown, it was discovered that the products from this store were counterfeit items that copied luxury brand logos and designs. Following this, police traced the origin of the clothing and confirmed that they were produced in a commercial building in Jungnang-gu before storming the site.
According to police, this company operated a factory of about 231㎡ (70 pyeong) on the third floor of a commercial building, employing 11 individuals to produce and package counterfeit T-shirts emblazoned with famous brand logos. Police seized about 3,660 short-sleeve T-shirts worth approximately 730 million won and 15,167 labels from the scene.
They were selling counterfeit T-shirts for about 50,000 won, while the actual brand price reached 250,000 won.
A police official noted, "When a store is selling products at significantly discounted prices under a 'store closing sale' banner that is not a formal store or website, it can lead to fraud, so please be especially cautious."
