It is expected that the first monsoon rains of the year will begin to fall in the central and southern regions around the 19th to 20th. This is about 3 to 5 days earlier than the average.

Lee Chang-jae, a forecasting analyst at the Korea Meteorological Administration, noted in a briefing on the 17th that "the central and southern regions will be under the influence of a stationary front around the 19th to 20th," adding, "There is a possibility that the monsoon will be declared in the inland areas at that time."

Earlier, the monsoon this year began in Jeju on the 12th. The average start dates for the monsoon in the southern and central regions (1991-2020) are June 23 and June 25, respectively. This year, the monsoon starts earlier than usual.

From the night of Thursday, the 19th, rain will begin nationwide starting in the central region, continuing on the 20th and 21st. During this period, heavy rainfall may occur in areas where precipitation is concentrated, potentially reaching 'heavy rain warning level'. A heavy rain warning is issued when rainfall is expected to exceed 90 mm in 3 hours or 180 mm in 12 hours.

From the 22nd to 24th, the stationary front will linger over Jeju and the southern coast, continuing rain primarily in Jeju and the southern regions. The stationary front is expected to move northward again around the 25th.

For the time being, the minimum temperature will be higher than the average, while the maximum daytime temperature will be similar to the average. Due to high humidity, the perceived temperature will be even higher.

Meanwhile, as of 1:20 p.m. on this day, temperatures are reported at 28 degrees Celsius in Seoul, 29 degrees in Daejeon, 28 degrees in Gwangju, 24.8 degrees in Busan, 29.4 degrees in Daegu, and 31.5 degrees in Jeju. There will be scattered showers in the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, in the inland areas of Chungcheong, and in the southern inland.
