On the 16th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government opened the Ui-cheon riverside vitality space in Gangbuk-gu.

The Ui-cheon, which opened on this day, is the 11th base of the 'Seoul-type riverside emotional city' project promoted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. This aims to transform local streams into spaces that citizens can utilize.

Until now, the upper part of the Ui-cheon embankment had a road for vehicles and bicycles and a parking lot.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has transformed this site into a multi-cultural space. Inside the building-type terrace, there is a comic-themed cafe and a rest area with views of Bukhansan. A fountain and tiered riverside stands have been installed beneath the terrace, allowing people to play between the water streams.

Along with the creation of the Ui-cheon riverside base space, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will also operate a 'car-free weekend' connected with the nearby Baegnyeon Market.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to open a total of six riverside vitality spaces this year, in addition to Ui-cheon. The targets include ▲Yangjaecheon (Gangnam, July) ▲Seongbukcheon (Seongbuk, September) ▲Gupabalcheon (Eunpyeong, October) ▲Danghyeoncheon (Nowon, October) ▲Yeoui-cheon (Seocho, December) ▲Jangjicheon (Songpa, December).

Oh Se-hoon, the Mayor of Seoul, attended the Ui-cheon opening ceremony and said, "I will accelerate the 'Return to the Golden Age of Gangbuk,' announced last year, and gradually fulfill the dreams and wishes of Gangbuk residents," adding, "By next year, I will create riverside vitality spaces in 27 locations across Seoul."

Lee Soon-hee, the head of Gangbuk District Office, stated, "We have added culture to Ui-cheon's function as a place for relaxation," and said, "It will be reborn as a space that offers rest and inspiration to tired urban dwellers."
