On the 15th, Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok (19th Judicial Research and Training Institute) met with Minister Oh Dong-woon (27th Judicial Research and Training Institute) who will lead the investigation into the civil insurrection related to the state of emergency declared on Dec. 3.
CIO announced in a press release that at 4 p.m. that day, Special Prosecutor Cho met with Minister Oh at the CIO headquarters in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, to discuss personnel dispatch and facility usage.
However, it was added that it is difficult to specify the details of the meeting.
CIO established an emergency state task force (TF) to investigate immediately after the state of emergency, deploying effectively all its investigative personnel, including the Minister, Vice Administrator, two Director Generals, nine prosecutors, and 24 investigators.
Subsequently, a joint investigation office was formed with the National Investigation Headquarters and the Ministry of National Defense, resulting in the issuance of an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who was arrested in January after two attempts.
Special Prosecutor Cho plans to request the dispatch of prosecutors who investigated the insurrection case not only from the prosecution office but also from CIO. According to the Special Act on Insurrection, it stipulates that three or more public officials affiliated with related agencies must be dispatched from CIO.
Given the nature of the cases and targets of the insurrection investigation, Special Prosecutor Cho is reviewing options for securing an office in highly secured government facilities such as the former Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul, the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, and the Government Gwacheon Complex.
