Special prosecutor Cho Eun-seok requested the Korean Bar Association for recommendations for candidates for the special prosecutor's office to investigate the emergency martial law-related insurrection case of 12·3.

The Korean Bar Association announced through a media notice on the 15th that it plans to select candidates and conduct personnel verification based on the request for a special prosecutor for the insurrection, recommending candidates for the special prosecutor's office by the 17th.

President Lee Jae-myung nominates Cho Eun-seok, a former acting chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection recommended by the Democratic Party, as a special prosecutor under the Special Prosecutor Act on the 12th. The deputy special prosecutor will be responsible for investigating the case and maintaining prosecution under the guidance and supervision of the special prosecutor, as well as supervising special investigators and dispatched public officials and handling media announcements, receiving treatment equivalent to that of a chief prosecutor.

The Korean Bar Association reported that it has not received any separate candidate recommendations from other special prosecutors, including Kim Keon-hee and the special prosecutor for the deceased Marine case.

The special prosecutor for the insurrection can have six deputy special prosecutors, while the special prosecutors for the deceased Marine case and Kim Keon-hee can each have four deputy special prosecutors.

According to the special prosecutor law, during a preparation period of 20 days from the appointment of the special prosecutor on the 12th, requests for the appointment of deputy special prosecutors, office arrangements, and the formation of investigation teams can be made.

Special prosecutor Cho is reviewing plans to set up offices in high-security government facilities, including the former Seocho Police Station, the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office, and the Government Complex in Gwacheon.

Special prosecutor Min Jung-gi, who is investigating allegations against Kim Keon-hee, the wife of former president Yoon Suk-yeol, and special prosecutor Lee Myung-hyun, who is in charge of uncovering the investigation pressure allegations surrounding the death of Army soldier Chae Mo, are also accelerating their selection of deputy special prosecutors and securing office space.
