As the rainy season begins in Jeju, a heavy rain advisory is in effect for some areas of Jeju and Jeollanam-do as of the evening of the 13th. There are places in this region where very heavy rain is falling.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 7:30 p.m. that day, rain is falling nationwide due to the influence of a trough moving eastward over the Yellow Sea. There are areas, especially in Jeolla and Jeju, where very heavy rain is falling at a rate of about 30 mm per hour. In some regions, there are gusts of wind along with thunder and lightning. The heavy rain advisory is in effect for Jeju Island, the southern coast of Jeollanam-do, the west coast, and for the regions of Gochang and Jeongeup in Jeollabuk-do.
Rain is expected nationwide from that day until the afternoon of the 14th. The rain will gradually stop in the western regions during the day on the 14th, but there will be places in Jeju where rain continues until the night of the 14th.
From that day until the morning of the 14th, very heavy rain accompanied by gusts of wind, thunder, and lightning at a rate of 20 to 50 mm per hour is expected, primarily in the Jeolla and Gyeongnam regions and Jeju Island. There will also be places in the Chungcheong and Gyeongbuk regions where heavy rain of 10 to 30 mm per hour will occur from that day until the morning of the 14th.
