Min Jung-ki, who was appointed as the special prosecutor for the investigation into Kim Keon-hee, said on the 13th, "As this is a matter that is socially controversial, I will look at the case objectively." The investigation targets of the Kim Keon-hee special prosecutor include receiving luxury bags, intervention in nominations, the Deutsch Motors stock manipulation case, and allegations regarding Geonjin Beopsa.
Min Jung-ki is a member of the People’s Law Research Society, a progressive judges' group within the court. During the Moon Jae-in administration, he served as the chief judge of the Central District Court, the largest court in the country, under Chief Justice Kim Myung-soo. Previously, he was the chairperson of the committee for additional investigations into the "judiciary blacklist allegations" while serving as the director general at the Seoul High Court.
On this day, Min told reporters at his office in Seocho-dong, Seoul, "I understand that there have been many questions raised about the case through public opinion, and I think I need to first grasp the facts and issues at hand and prepare my office."
When asked by reporters if there were accusations of political bias, Min noted, "I don't think so, but I cannot control (other people's evaluations)."
Min, born in Daejeon in 1959, graduated from Daejeon High School and Seoul National University Law School. He passed the 24th bar exam in 1982. After completing the Judicial Research and Training Institute class 14 and serving as a naval judge advocate, he began his judicial career in 1988 at the Daejeon District Court. He served as the chief judge of the Seoul Administrative Court, director general at the Busan and Seoul High Courts, chief director general of the Seoul High Court, and president of the Seoul Eastern District Court, and served as the chief judge of the Central District Court from February 2018 to February 2021 during the Moon Jae-in administration.
In November 2017, while he was a director general at the Seoul High Court, he chaired the committee for additional investigations into the "judiciary blacklist allegations" and led the investigation into judicial administrative power abuse cases.
