Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) announced on the morning of the 13th that it will restore the Gyeongui Line tracks, which were disrupted due to a fallen ladder truck, and resume KTX, regular trains, and electric train operations starting at 1:30 p.m.
According to Korail and the fire authorities, at around 8:19 a.m. on the same day, a ladder truck, which was transporting moving goods from an 18th-floor apartment in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, lost its balance and toppled toward the opposite track. The ladder truck came into contact with the power supply line while falling, causing a power outage in the 2.7 km section between Gajwa Station and Sinchon Station, which halted train operations.
According to Korail, all trains operated normally except for one KTX train bound for Busan that was scheduled to depart from Haengsin Station at 8:30 p.m. Nine regular trains, including ITX Saemaul and ITX-Ma-Eum, were halted. Four trains changed their departure and arrival stations.
Korail cut the fallen ladder truck and moved it outside the tracks. As a result of the accident, three dwellings on the opposite side of the tracks suffered damage to walls, roofs, and solar panels. No injuries were reported.
A Korail official noted, “Train operations may be adjusted, so passengers should check the operation status in advance through Korail Talk and announcements in the station and on the trains.”
