From today through the weekend, rain has been forecasted across the country. The temperatures are at seasonal levels, but the high humidity will make it feel sultry. In particular, heavy rain is expected in Jeju Island, the southern coast, and near Jirisan, which means camping in nearby valleys and rivers should be avoided.

Kong Sang-min, a forecast analyst at the Korea Meteorological Administration, said at a regular briefing on the 13th that "rainfall of around 5 mm per hour is occurring mainly in the southern region," adding that "rain will likely expand nationwide from this evening until tomorrow."

In particular, heavy rain of 30 to 50 mm per hour is expected in Jeju Island and the southern coast from early to morning on the 14th. Rainfall of 50 mm per hour means visibility becomes difficult even when using windshield wipers while driving.

Kong explained, "Moist air carried by strong winds ('lower jet') formed by pressure differences is rising and this hits the mountainous areas of Jeju, the southern coast, and Jirisan strongly, causing heavy rain."

Between the 13th and 14th, a significant amount of rain of 50 to 120 mm is expected in Jeju. In the mountainous areas of Jeju, some places may see over 250 mm of rain. ▲ The southern coast of Jeollanam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do may receive 120 mm ▲ Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, Busan, and Ulsan are forecasted to receive 30 to 80 mm ▲ Seoul and the metropolitan area, as well as the central region, are expected to receive around 5 to 40 mm of rain. Rainfall will decrease as one moves north.

Even in areas with low precipitation, there is a possibility of temporary convective precipitation (heavy rain) occurring between tonight and tomorrow morning. Consequently, the Korea Meteorological Administration urged people to refrain from camping near water and to pay attention to the safety of facilities.

Rain is expected to mostly stop by the night of the 14th. However, from Sunday the 15th to Monday the 16th, a cold front will pass through, bringing rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusts nationwide. On the night of the 16th, when Typhoon No. 1 'Udip' weakens and the remaining moisture mass flows into the vicinity of Jeju, there is a possibility of concentrated heavy rain in that area.

Around the 21st, the rainy season may begin in the central region. This year, there are projections that the 'start of the rainy season' may be declared in the central region before the southern region. There have only been three instances in history where the rainy season started first in the central region compared to the southern region. Previously, an early rainy season had begun in Jeju from the day before compared to the seasonal average.

It is expected to be very humid over the weekend, which will raise the perceived temperature. Morning temperatures next week are expected to be around 20 degrees, and daytime temperatures around 30 degrees are projected to be at seasonal levels.
