Since around 8:20 a.m. on the 13th, train operations have been suspended in both directions on the 2.7 km section between Gajwa Station and Sinchon Station.
The Seoul city government stated in a disaster text message sent that day, 'Due to the overturning of a lift truck, both directions are under control,' and 'Passengers are advised to check the operation status before using the train.'
According to the Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail), which operates the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, the disruption occurred around 8:19 a.m. due to an electricity supply failure on the route between Seoul Station and Haengsin Station.
The incident occurred when an external company's moving lift truck fell onto the tracks between Gajwa Station and Sinchon Station, contacting the overhead power lines.
As a result of this incident, KTX, regular trains, and electric trains between Gajwa Station and Sinchon Station have been halted. Currently, Korail's initial response team is on site to restore electricity supply. The section of the Gyeongui Line running underground between Gajwa Station and Yongsan Station is expected to operate normally.
As train services were suspended, commuters on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line heading toward Sinchon Station or Seoul Station experienced inconvenience. Passengers on the stranded train near Sinchon Station opened the suddenly stopped train doors and walked along the tracks to the station.
A Korail official noted, 'Trains departing from and arriving at Seoul Station and Yongsan Station are in operation,' adding, 'Passengers are advised to check the Korail app “Korail Talk” before using the train.'
