On the 13th, an accident occurred at Eunma Apartment in Daechi-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, where two workers working on a sewer construction were buried, resulting in one fatality and one injury.

According to the fire authorities, at around 1:02 p.m. on that day, a report was received at 119 that a worker had been buried while replacing the drainage pipes inside the apartment.

The responding fire authorities rescued the two workers at around 1:40 p.m. A male, referred to as A (69), who was buried up to his shoulders in a pile of dirt, was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest. He was later pronounced dead at around 2:30 p.m.

A male, referred to as B (58), who was buried only from the waist down, was injured but remained conscious. B was also transported to a nearby hospital. Both individuals are employees of the apartment management office.

According to police, it was reported that a 50-centimeter diameter drainage pipe was blocked within the Eunma Apartment complex on the 11th. Employees of the management office were digging at the site of the accident while trying to find the blockage. At the time of the accident, 12 to 13 management office employees were digging the ground, and during this, a 1-meter-high pile of dirt that had been stacked nearby collapsed, burying A and B. A police official noted, "The piled dirt was wet and heavy, which likely caused it to collapse."
