The labor and management of Incheon city buses reached an agreement on wages and collective bargaining this year.
According to Incheon City and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) National Automobile Labor Union Federation on the 12th, the Incheon city bus labor and management held a third mediation meeting at the Incheon Regional Labor Relations Commission the previous evening and reached a final agreement.
The Incheon city bus labor and management agreed to reform the wage system by reflecting the regular bonus in the ordinary wage. Accordingly, the average salary of Incheon city bus union members will increase by 9.3%.
Previously, the Incheon city bus union demanded a 14.9% wage increase while the management claimed 5.2%, resulting in a gap between the two sides. However, the Incheon Regional Labor Relations Commission proposed a mediation plan that both sides accepted, leading to an agreement.
Incheon City estimated that it would need to inject about 32 billion won in additional finances due to this city bus labor-management agreement. Incheon City has been operating a quasi-public bus system to compensate for the operating losses of the bus since 2009. It invested 230 billion won in the budget for the quasi-public system last year.
