It has been reported that a notice containing the derogatory phrase “the lower the income, the less clean the body” was attached to a swimming facility in Gyeonggi Province, causing controversy.
On the 10th, a set of swimming pool usage rules from a swimming pool in the country was shared on an online community. The notice stated, “A swimming pool is not a place for cleansing,” “Shower clean with soap before use,” “Wear a swim cap,” and “The clarity of the pool after use indicates your income level. (Research paper) The lower the income, the less clean the body.”
Most swimming facilities prohibit cleansing actions to maintain water quality and hygiene. However, it is presumed that this notice was attached as some members repeatedly violated these rules.
Internet users also criticized the notice. They responded, “It seems like they wanted to emphasize that it is not a place for cleansing, but the content is excessive for usage rules,” “What does the cleanliness of the pool have to do with income?” and “I don't understand the need to use such expressions.”
