A Chinese internet user with about 300,000 followers is causing controversy by running a social media (SNS) account named "Chinese Kimchi."
Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University said on the 12th through social media that the main content of the Instagram account is dance videos, noting that there are many videos with over 10 million views, and some that have surpassed 30 million views.
He added that "the description of the videos even includes hashtags (#chinesekimchi), causing problems" and noted, "It is a situation where overseas internet users can only misunderstand it as 'Chinese kimchi.'"
Professor Seo stated, "A few months ago, I reported a similar account to stop its operation," and emphasized, "This account must also be forced to change its ID or cease operation through proactive reporting by internet users."
He continued, "Some Chinese internet users are persistently making absurd claims on SNS that kimchi is part of their culture," and added, "We also need to take proactive measures."
