An incident occurred at a middle school in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, where a second-grade student became angry at a teacher's reprimand and discharged a fire extinguisher in the teacher's office and the hallway.
On the 11th, the Paju Police Station stated that they have detained a second-grade student, identified as A, on suspicion of property damage.
A is suspected of spraying a fire extinguisher in the hallway near a second-grade classroom in Wadong-dong, Paju, around 9 a.m. the previous day and then fleeing the scene.
The discharge of the fire extinguisher by A caused chaos, prompting students to evacuate to the playground. The school decided to send the second-grade students home early due to the powder spread in the hallway making normal classes difficult.
An emergency text message was sent to parents stating, "Due to the situation where the fire extinguisher has been dispersed in the school hallway, it is difficult to conduct classes, so we are compelled to take the measures of releasing students early."
Police, responding to a 112 call, apprehended A, who had fled, near the school. It is reported that A had also sprayed a fire extinguisher in the teacher's office of the same school around 1 p.m. on the 9th.
During police questioning, A reportedly stated, "I got angry and sprayed the fire extinguisher because the teacher reprimanded me for smoking."
The police plan to process the case according to the law after investigating the circumstances of the incident and the motive behind the act.
