The Ministry of the Interior and Safety held a meeting on measures to prepare for the rainy season on the 11th. As the rainy season is expected to arrive earlier than usual this year, discussions were held on flood prevention measures under the leadership of Lee Han-gyeong, head of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the first rainy season rain will fall in Jeju Island the following day. The rainy season in the Jeju area started more than a week earlier than the average date of June 19. Rain is expected to expand to the Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang regions on the 13th, and to most of the country on Saturday, the 14th. In Japan, where the rainy season began early, heavy rainfall has been recorded in Kagoshima, with daily precipitation reaching 200 to 300 mm.
The head of the management office said, 'We must be prepared as extreme weather conditions can cause heavy rainfall,' and noted, 'Areas that have previously experienced casualties are susceptible to damage again, so please come up with thorough preventive measures.'
During the meeting, the government examined response systems aimed at minimizing casualties in Jeju and southern regions, where precipitation is expected after the 13th. Throughout this heavy rainfall forecast period, the weather conditions will be monitored in real-time, and patrols will be conducted in villages. Additionally, information about landslides and other relevant updates will be communicated through broadcasts, text messages, and village announcements.
