Hansung University has initiated disciplinary procedures against a student who installed exhibits containing images of the Rising Sun flag and derogatory remarks about Koreans, as well as sexual violence statements, on campus.
Hansung University formed an investigation committee related to this incident on 4th, and reported on the 10th that it is conducting an investigation into the student who installed the exhibits. The university plans to hold a disciplinary committee once the investigation is concluded. A university official noted, “The school is taking this seriously,” and added, “We will promptly follow the disciplinary process.”
The school posted a notice titled 'The school's position on the unauthorized exhibition and removal of unapproved exhibits' on campus the day before. The head of the student office at Hansung University stated in the notice, “This incident is a serious deviation that has caused significant shock, harm, and anger to all, including members of Hansung University.”
According to Hansung University, around 11:10 p.m. on the 3rd, a male student studying in the Department of Painting installed several unauthorized exhibits, including images mixing the Rising Sun flag and the Taegukgi. The contents included statements like 'Disgusting Joseonjing have no shame' and sexual violence remarks against women.
The school discovered the exhibits 20 minutes later. It is reported that the student voluntarily removed them 40 minutes after installation.
