The police closed the sexual violence suspicion case involving the late former People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won due to 'no right to prosecute due to the suspect's death.'
According to the police on the 10th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency reportedly concluded the case involving the former lawmaker, who was accused of attempted rape and injury, in this manner.
The former lawmaker was accused of committing sexual violence against his secretary in November 2015 while serving as the vice president of a university in Busan, and had been under police investigation. This fact became known through the media in March, and the former lawmaker denied the allegations in a media statement and during police questioning. He was found dead on the evening of March 31 in an officetel in Gangdong District, Seoul, on the same day his secretary's side released related videos to the press.
The Gangdong Police Station, which was investigating the former lawmaker's death, also concluded on the 5th that there were no criminal suspicions regarding the former lawmaker's death and closed the investigation.
