The Ministry of Employment and Labor has decided to conduct planned inspections targeting five power generation companies in light of the death of non-regular worker Kim Chung-hyun, who died on 2nd while working at the Korea Western Power Taean Thermal Power Plant.

On the afternoon of the 9th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor held its first meeting after establishing the 'Taean Thermal Power Plant death accident response headquarters' to address the fatal incident that occurred at the Taean Thermal Power Plant.

The response headquarters will consist of the Ministry of Employment and Labor headquarters, local industrial safety and labor standards supervisory departments, and major accident investigation departments.

At the meeting, the response headquarters decided to promote planned inspections of a total of five companies, including Korea Western Power, South Eastern Power, East-West Power, South Power, and Central Power, where the fatal incident occurred.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor's planned inspections aim to confirm whether there are violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act at the business sites of corporations where fatal accidents occurred.

The response headquarters specifically discussed the scope of supervision for the five power companies, the composition of the supervisory team, and the inspection schedule.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor noted, "Based on today's discussions, we plan to finalize and implement the supervision plan as soon as possible."

Earlier, employee Kim Chung-hyun of Korea Power O&M, a subcontractor of KEPCO KPS, died around 2:30 p.m. on the 2nd while working in the machine workshop of the KEPCO KPS Taean Thermal Power Plant. The police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor are investigating the fact that the covering of the high-speed rotating part of the machine at the accident site was open while it was operating, and are looking into the status of the work and procedural issues on that day.
