A university student who reported England Premier League (EPL) club uniforms as personal items and repeatedly sold them domestically was caught by customs authorities.
On the 9th, the Seoul Customs Office announced that it had caught a university student surnamed A on suspicion of violating tariff laws. A is accused of selling over 400 items of foreign famous football team uniforms worth 40 million won, purchased from online malls in the United States and the United Kingdom, on domestic online communities from February to December of last year.
A was found to have falsely reported the items as personal use goods when bringing them into the country. This exploited the fact that personal use goods worth less than $150 can be exempted from tariffs just by reporting to customs. Even if the items are purchased from overseas for personal use, they must be officially declared if they are utilized for commercial purposes.
The Seoul Customs Office imposed fines and additional tariffs on A, and confiscated the uniforms that had not been sold.
