The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 8th that applications for living support funds for the victims of the Itaewon disaster will be accepted at the relevant city and county offices starting from the 9th.
The target for living support fund applications is the household members of victims of the Itaewon disaster or households where they belong.
Additionally, if parents, children, or siblings of the victims are not household members but are recognized as needing living support, they may also be included. This inclusion will occur following a decision by the Committee for the Relief of Victims of the Itaewon Disaster.
The living support fund is based on the number of household members affiliated with the victims according to the Law on the Investigation of the Itaewon Disaster.
The amounts for victims are set from 730,500 won (for single-person households) to 2,775,100 won (for households with more than seven people). For victims, the amounts range from 1,461,000 won (for single-person households) to 5,550,200 won (for households with more than seven people). The support funds will not be included in the income recognition amount for basic livelihood recipients for one year from the payment date.
Applications for the living support fund can be made at the city or county office responsible for the residence of the victim. Applications can also be submitted by mail or fax. In the case of foreigners without a registered address, applications can be made at the city or county office responsible for the embassy of their nationality.
Chairman Jwa Se-jun of the Committee for the Relief of Victims of the Itaewon Disaster said, "I hope that the living support fund will help the victims and bereaved families who are facing difficulties due to the Itaewon disaster to restore their daily lives."
