The Korea Fire Agency announced on the 5th that it will hold a memorial service for 15 fallen firefighters at the Fire Fighter Memorial Tower in the Central Fire Academy in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, on the 6th, which marks the 70th Memorial Day.

The 15 fallen firefighters whose memorial plaques will be enshrined this time are ▲late Fire Captain Park Sang-wook ▲late Fire Captain Jo Joo-sang ▲late Fire Lieutenant Jo Seong-hwan ▲late Fire Lieutenant Park Sang-rok ▲late Fire Lieutenant Noh Ja-hwan ▲late Firefighter Hong Jun-ki ▲late Fire Lieutenant Son Jun-ho ▲late Fire Lieutenant Lee Chang-geun ▲late Industrial Research Officer Kim Hwang-jin ▲late Fire Lieutenant Lee Yun-bong ▲late Fire Lieutenant Kim Cheol-jae ▲late Fire Lieutenant Kim Seong-gye ▲late Fire Lieutenant Oh Seung-myeong ▲late Fire Captain Jeon Gwang-ho ▲late Fire Lieutenant Park Tae-soo.

The Fire Fighter Memorial Tower, where the memorial plaques are enshrined, was established to honor the spirits of fallen firefighters after the arson incident in Hongje-dong in 2001. In this incident, six firefighters who were dispatched to extinguish a fire caused by arson in a multi-family residential house in Hongje-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, died in the line of duty on March 4, 2001. Including the 15 memorial plaques being enshrined this time, a total of 464 plaques have been enshrined to date.

On this day, the memorial service will be attended by the families of the 15 fallen firefighters, the head of the Korea Fire Agency, the head of the Eastern Chungcheong Veterans Affairs Office, and fellow staff members.

Heo Seok-gon, head of the Korea Fire Agency, said, “I will not forget the noble sacrifice of the fallen firefighters who dedicated themselves to the people,” and “I will forever remember their dedication and do my best to honor the families of the fallen.”
