The police announced on the 4th that they are maintaining security activities for President Lee Jae-myung in collaboration with the Presidential Security Service.

The Korean National Police Agency stated in a press release that "the dedicated police security team that was operational during the presidential election campaign is continuing its existing security activities for the president."

Presidential candidates receive police protection during their campaign period. Once elected as president, the security responsibilities are typically transferred to the Presidential Security Service, but both the police and the security service are currently conducting security activities together.

On that morning, when President Lee was exiting his residence in Incheon or paying respects at the National Cemetery in Seoul, the police performed close protection. The security service is leading the vehicle movement.

It is reported that the decision to not let the security service handle the security operations exclusively but to conduct them jointly with the police reflects the president's intent. The security service prevented the execution of an arrest warrant from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) against former President Yoon Suk-yeol last January.
