On the morning of the 3rd, a fire broke out in a building in Sindang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, resulting in one death, one person seriously injured, and three others with minor injuries. The location of the fire housed a sewing factory.
According to the fire authorities, the fire occurred around 9:34 a.m. in a sewing factory on the second floor of a five-story building in Sindang-dong.
As a result of the fire, a woman in her 60s was found dead on the second floor. A man in his 60s, also on the second floor, was transported to the hospital with burns over his entire body. Two men in their 20s and 30s on the fifth floor were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. A firefighter who was working on extinguishing the fire also suffered a first-degree burn to his face. Additionally, the firefighters rescued a total of six individuals.
Upon the outbreak of the fire, the fire authorities issued a first-level response around 9:41 a.m. and deployed 155 personnel and over 40 pieces of equipment to tackle the blaze. They contained the major flames around 10:04 a.m. and completely extinguished the fire by 11:02 a.m.
Witnesses noted that "a man sprayed an ignitable substance." The police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
